Something Different

Bentonite Clay Mask

A few months ago I went to Super Cosmetics in Nyali, Mombasa and came across this clay. I know clays were good for making face masks but I had no idea what I was actually buying.

So I bought it  (100 grams for KSH400) and went home. I did my research (click here to find out more about it) to see how the mask is prepared. There were two main ways to try this mask first was Apple Cider Vinegar and the other with Rose water.

Bentonite Clay and Apple Cider Vinegar Mask: so this mask is very strong. If you have sensitive skin, I don’t recommend on using this.  I used around 2 table spoons of the vinegar and a spoon of they clay to make a smooth paste. I applied it to my face and neck and let it dry for 30 min. Around the 20th minute you feel how your skin is pulsating (especially the tip of your nose), this is very normal. When the time came to wash my face, the mask was very dry and had started to crack. I washed the mask off and my face felt tight, clean and was very red. The redness is also something common. The amazing thing that happened is when the redness started fading away, the redness of my acne was also fading.  It really made my acne small and almost unnoticeable. I loved it.

Bentonite Clay and Rose Water: this mask is mild, So those with sensitive skin can also use it, however I only recommend it for 20 min. When I tried this version of the mask, it worked just as fine except it was not as strong. The one thing I did notice, was that the rose water made my face much smoother. I also learnt to apply the rode water after using the mask. This was refreshing and hydrating to the face.

Over all this clay is amazing for masks especially if you have acne. It reduces the acne at a rapid rate. The only reason I am not saying it makes the acne go away is because I have not been consistent with it and my acne has not yet dissapeared.  However this clay is not only beneficial for acne, but it has several other amazing uses, check them out!

Ps. For those living in Nairobi and want this, you can find it at Sasa Mall in town.

    1. It’s amazing…especially once it comes off and the redness goes away. Have you tried drinking it? I keep seeing that on Pinterest…but wanted a few opinions before I would try it

    1. It’s not really recommended for dry skin, however if you have breakouts and want to do the mask. Mix the clay with Rose water and make sure to hydrate your face after the mask.
